A Touch of Virtua R79a

Author/Auteur: XtraBu77on

Hello readers of TMC! I again would like to bring you an article from Virtua in my perspective. Enjoy! :)

ITEM 1: Harbors/Cashington
So, where to begin? I suppose with the most talked about item this round harbors. Most citizens of Virtua felt that harbors are more likely to hurt our economy rather then help it. Last round this feat was attempted but failed due to the acts of Gold Runner, then mayor of Cashington, who sold the lot to an MV to build the harbor.

This round however Gold Runner lost his mayor-ship after a week or so. When asked the feds simply reply that he broke a rule in the mayor and no further information was given, not even a hint. After the citizens voted for a new mayor I, XtraBu77on, was appointed as mayor. That too however failed due to me name a road “Vote XtraButton”. I still have somewhat of a problem with this because there is nothing in the mayor manual about the naming of roads or what not. It was told to me that it was due to the fact of advertisement and giving a person an unfair advantage; and I still have yet to see how I might have an unfair advantage over another player, especially since I couldn’t trade at that time. Unless I misread the law book incorrectly the unfair advantage applies to trading/people that are trading.

Anyway, after I was demoted from mayor Zeromercy was promoted due to the fact he was the only other candidate. Considering this is his first round, it seems he is doing an ok job but nothing really much is required of him other that creating exims, which again he’s doing fine at.

ITEM2: A Farewell
As many my know Virtua will be losing a strong voice, markallen3. It seems his life outside of Miniconomy is very busy leaving no room for game concentration. Although I personally haven’t had much time to get to know him, in the past couple of rounds he really hasn’t been trading much. Perhaps this was his way of slowly withdrawing from the game. In any case he is loved by many from all nations and will be missed.

ITEM 3: Angry Feds?
I don’t know if it is perhaps me but it seems the feds (or a certain fed?) have been pushing Virtua to the side. I believe this may have started 2 rounds ago when the Chair of the BOC voice was ignored and his requests were needed to be verified by the Tribune. The round it seems the same thing is happening. This rounds chair, Bittersweet Ibisha, had requested that the elected Tribune be given the ‘Assembly Forum’ club. This request was only granted 4 days later after the Tribune had again pleaded with the feds to grant him the club. Now the chair is trying to appoint an FCS and again her request is being ignored. So, I hope this is all in my head and that Virtua is not being ignored, for whatever reason.

A Touch of Virtua

Noot: Ondanks dat dit in het Engels is, wilde ik het publiceren.

XtraBu77on

Since there is no longer an English version I thought I might start to submit an article/edition in English since that is the only language I speak. So for starters I guess an update of Virtua is in order.
The first two days started out slow with few producers or core products in each city. What made things worse is that instead of people seeing what needs made they produced the same products as what was already on the market. This would not be so bad as it stimulates competition but there were some essential products missing; for instance in Cashington, there are 2 brick makers, 1 wood maker, 3 iron makers, 1 shovel/saw maker and 1 gas producer. This leaves no competition for the gas, wood, and shovel/saw maker. Also glass and ovens are nearly non-existent which leaves me to question how many people really know what they’re doing.
On the other hand Centropolis seems to be the new center of Virtua…. and i’m not just saying that because I’m the mayor. There are iron, brick ,wood, glass, oven, plastic(virtually not seen in cash), pump/engine’s, screwdriver, and car makers that keep their shops for the most part full. At this point I even dare to compare Cashington to Nasdaqar.
I’d like to now suddenly switch subjects and write about the hostilities that Digitalie has shown to both Cyberia and Virtua last round and apparently which will continue into this round if the conflict isn’t solved. According to Andoversr (our current Chairman), Digi has some simple terms:
-Digitalia, in exchange for peace, will receive special fines (lower of course), the local inhabitants will just pay the fine as it is now. (I’m sure Virtua can persuade the feds/Wouter to implement this)
- Digitalia, in exchange for peace, will receive 20% of the budget of the Virtuan cities, to be put to good use in Digitalia.
- Digitalia, in exchange for peace, will get a say in the Virtuan politics. The king will get a vote in decisions being made by the BoC.
- Digitalia, in exchange for peace, will get 50 pieces of every resource and product, plus 1 aeroplane.
(airplane?)
To this I say: Seriously….. These are terms that one might submit to a cowardly country or one that has been severely beaten. In an effort to keep things somewhat civilized I will not open my mouth (or fingers?) at this time so that hopefully talks can continue (I have no access to the International Convention club so I’m unaware of how they are going). I will say this however: We are neither cowardly nor beaten; and there is an idea of no ports floating around alot.
I suppose i will finish with Cyberia, and I must say I am a bit disappointed of the actions of the president as he refuses to be diplomatic and open an English discussion topic in his embassy. I must say that this is essentially shunning Virtua for whatever reason and I hope that the citizens and/or parliament will realize this. I honestly considered Cyberia a close cousin of Virtua until this point.

Reform Fail Train – Now Arriving

Author: Andoversr

As we saw this week the government reform passed in the Board of Consuls, as the only Consul who voted against this I feel the need to rant and speculate at how badly this will fail.
First big fail of this is that everyone in Virtua without cheater status, or criminal status, is on the assembly. This is a fail as not everyone who even plays in Virtua is signed up or active in the government clubs.
Now let’s look at some statistics as of 3/24/10: Active Virtuans (who signed in this round)(obtained from http://www.miniconomy.com/statistics/activeplayers.php )
Cashington  (83), Nasdaqar (44), Centropolis (84), total:
Number of players who have joined (as of 3/24) : BOC Public (42) , Board of Consuls (35) , Department of Education: (28), Virtua Court (14).
As you can see we have 211 active Virtua players and only 1/5 of them at best are even viewing what’s happening at the National Government.
IF (and thats a big IF) all of those people in BOC Public and Board of Consuls voted on stuff then at most we would have only 20% and nothing would pass.

The next issue I would like to address is the actual vote count itself:

As we know the Population is always changing as new immigrants arrive at the shores of Virtua all the time, each day the requirement for the 50%+ majority would increase as more people arrive and begin to trade.
This will only make this harder to pass as the trading period progresses. Another reason it is doomed for failure.

Next let’s look at the sheer amount of bureaucracy to this:

Everyone would get a input on this and everyone would have their own opinion, that’s not a bad thing, however the length of time it would take to get everyone to finally agree on something would mean that the amount of new laws that could be passed would be reduced a lot and each law would take days to a week or more to finally get to a vote.
My fear of this system is that it will turn us into the US in the sense that laws are overly debated, and nothing gets done, not to mention there just won’t be enough active Virtuans to pass anything.

My 2 cents,

Andoversr, Consul of Education

Reaction on Reform Fail Train – Now arriving

As editor of The Miniconomist for Virtua, I have the advantage of being able to react on articles before others might have read them. I want to use this advantage to react on the article of Andoversr about the government reform the Board of Consuls passed this round.

“IF (and thats a big IF) all of those people in BOC Public and Board of Consuls voted on stuff then at most we would have only 20% and nothing would pass.”

If I read this, I wonder whether Andoversr actually did read the proposal. Although I don’t really understand the meaning of what this line should be saying, I think it means that we never get the whole Assembly to vote, and with only 20% voting nothing can pass. That assumption is wrong, as I quote the law proposal:

“Only the Council and the Assembly have legislative power within Virtua. This power includes the right to propose an unlimited amount of proposals, and vote on proposals.
A proposal is accepted when 50%+1 of the amount of legal votes is in favor.”

I can’t find the text which makes the whole Assembly to agree with it, only 50%+1 of the legal votes has to be in favor. Whether this are 20 votes or 3 votes doesn’t matter. So this is a non-problem. Then I will move to the next presumed issue:

“The next issue I would like to address is the actual vote count itself:

As we know the Population is always changing as new immigrants arrive at the shores of Virtua all the time, each day the requirement for the 50%+ majority would increase as more people arrive and begin to trade.
This will only make this harder to pass as the trading period progresses. Another reason it is doomed for failure.”

Andoversr is making an mistake here as well. If he’d read the proposal properly, he could have seen that the amount of people with voting right within the Assembly is fixed within the first 48 hours of the round. So it doesn’t matter whether people come to Virtua or not, if you aren’t a voter from the beginning of the round, you can’t become one later. So this is a non-problem as well.

“Next let’s look at the sheer amount of bureaucracy to this:

Everyone would get a input on this and everyone would have their own opinion, thats not a bad thing, however the lenght of time it would take to get everyone to finally agree on something
would mean that the amount of new laws that could be passed would be reduced by alot and each law would take days to a week or more to finally get to a vote.
My fear of this system is that it will turn us into the US in the sense that laws are overly debated, and nothing gets done, not to mention there just won’t be enough active Virtuans to pass anything.”

Again, reading the proposal might’ve helped preventing this kind of misunderstandings. Of course I realized that it could take forever to discuss matters if everyone had to keep contributing. That is why there is a time limit on both voting and discussing proposals, as stated here:

Paragraph 2.4b: Voting procedure

For every proposal a discussion time of at most 96 hours will be provided, in which all members of the Assembly may take part. After that, a voting will follow in the Assembly Forum, where all members of the Assembly may vote. The voting will last at least 24 and at most 48 hours. If necessary, the Tribune can decide on decreasing or increasing the discussion time.

I cannot keep expressing the meaning of this reform, as the current Virtuan government is just done. It has done what had to do, but it has outlived its functionality. Whether it will succeed or not doesn’t really matter actually. I think it will bring some more people into Virtuan politics, but even if this new form of government fails, I think it will open the way to a better form of government then we currently have, because the Board of Consuls became an uninteresting and boring government system, and it did that many rounds ago.

Bad Round?

Author: Goldrunner

It seems we were missing a couple of products this round. the first days we haven’t seen much bricks and now we were missing a big shovel trader.
It seems like Virtua needs more big traders as now. I didn’t see a shovel trader the last couple of days and at the most times at Centropolis wood is an exclusive product. The prices of some products are high as well. Maybe it is because the trading period is coming to its end, but you can still earn enough money. Especially the brick, wood and iron producers can make more money than others. Enough people need this products for the exports.
Also the electronic traders can earn money in the last days as then they do in the last days  now. There is always a nice auction for their products. When they produce it in limited quantities they can earn enough money. Also there are tourists, who always need your products if you sell them at a nice price.

This only were some examples but you can earn more money than you think. You can earn at least 300 ISH per day with exports, and an auction is free money for Virtua.
Hopefully the traders can make something more from this last trade days.

Terrorism in Virtua

Author: plvivek

Last week a bomb was planted near my house in cashington. In this blast 4 people were hurt.It was later said that this attack was targeted at VTU club whose members are prominent traders of virtua.Fortunately many of these traders escaped from the blast site.I talked with thatspresserguy who was injured in this blast . He said he was taking rest when this explosion took place and he ended up paying huge hospital  bills.
By the time this article was written  Virtuan police was unable to find out this culprit. Today problem is why our armed forces are not equipped enough to protect our country when people from other countries are constantly attacking our people and bombing this great democracy.
They came and easily steal products from us . But rarely actions were taken against them. I must ask: why? Why sufficient steps are not taken in against these terrorists? We want officials who have great foresight regarding safety of our country else these outsiders will one day destroy our great culture.

Progress Report on Education part 2

Author: Andoversr

Hello, I’d like to review on the State of Education in Virtua.

First off as the previous edition stated, Schools without borders, was a flop, neither Cyberia or Digitalia liked it and it was given up upon. On the bright side there are several new education changes next round, let’s review them.

4.9.1 Education Subsidies

Virtuan Teachers of approved schools may be entitled to 50 ISH per student they take on up to 250 ISH per round paid out of the Budget of the Consul of Education.

The Consul of Education may award x10 50 ISH scholarships, to students wishing to seek education at Approved schools or the state school.”

This will provide guaranteed I-shells to student and teachers alike, providing incentives for Education and Schools

Removed: (Bodyguard can only be obtained if the person is already in possession of the Officer degree), from article 4.3.

Bodyguard will now be more accessible to all students without the officer degree since the requirement will be abolished.

This next change is still in the works, it would require the COE to have an assistant with the teacher degree if the COE lacks the degree.

Overall this has been a great few weeks for education and making progress towards enhancing our system!

-Andoversr
Consul of Education

Missing

Author: Riemer_1990

I regret to announce that our main editor and beloved friend Ravox is missing for a couple of weeks. He was last seen at the house of Sugarfree however after that the trail goes cold. If you have any information please report at the CBI who is currently investigating the missing.

There are some rumors at the clubs and pubs in Virtua. Some are noted here. Maybe he got locked up at the basement of Sugarfree? Maybe he moved to the new city Sans Francishco as he is still considered as a noob beginner? Maybe the CoV kidnapped him as he was about to write somekind offensive article?

We hope to find it out with your information, if you have any ideas or thoughts write an article about it for the next edition.

Although we have this big loss, we try to recover and issue the TMC Virtua edition a couple of times each round and this one will be the first one for this round. Enjoy reading.

Mayors Virtua

Author: Gold Runner
Translator: Riemer_1990

Last Saturday after we had abandoned the boat in Virtua I frowned and looked around. At first things seemed pretty organized. But when I was on the Virtuan soil for a bit longer I found some missing pieces. Almost no exims, no subsidies, to small roads. Is this because of inexperienced players?
First of all, let we start with the mayor of Cashington. Here Veronica was rolling the show and everything looked perfect in order. There were enough roads and the exims where alright. After the most traders put up a business they eximmed as much as they could. However after some time all the exims were fulfilled leaving some traders without additional funds. Also the first subsidy isn’t something to put on your CV. Of course it isn’t necessary, but those small ishes really make the differences the first few days. In the end everything went pretty well. There are enough exims now and the subsidies are divided very nicely.

The second city we are going to discuss is the mayor of Centropolis. Here Mr. Dow is in command. What first crossed in mind when looking at this city is that there is only a very small mainstreet.
Also the mayor wasn’t able to get in Virtua the first day, luckily due the new automatic systems he could order the exims from a foreign country. However due the small mainstreet Centropolis is not attractive enough for all those big traders outside Centropolis who wants a shop in every city. Due this the shopsizes are not to be brag about. Also –just like in Cashington- the First subsidy wasn’t issued that early. This was most likely caused by the fact that the mayor arrived late in the Federation. This was quite a disadvantage, trade didn’t started up well and therefore the Centropolians even had to buy from the Federal Supermarket a lot. However after some time Centropolis became a big city once again with thanks of some citizens. The exims are set every night and the is enough subsidy flow.

And last but not least of the beautiful Virtua, the city Nasdaqar. Here RDG 1 has seated the mayoral office but has been replaced by Furywind after a bad start. There is a small mainstreet and to make matters worse even the mayor has bought some lots along the road. There were no exims and the subsidies were quite low in the start. Also a lack of trader is something common in Nasdaqar. Now things –with the help of our new mayor Furywind- Things are better but if it will recover from the bad start? We shall review it again in the next edition.

Progress Report on Education

Author: Andoversr

After a long period of inactivity I have finally returned from the far west to Virtua, however to my suprise, the state of Education of Virtua has changed very little since I was around. The Consul of Education was still a role not taken siriously enough by those who ran and were elected, which is why I ran for election and seeked to be Consul of Education.

Now that im back I have begun many initiatives to try and get Education, however there are a few that I would love to implement, such as requiring the Consul of Education to be a teacher, that, lets face it, probably wont happen.

I am optimistic about getting my education subsidies law passed, and at this point it appears my Schools without borders treaty is a flop in Cyberie and Digitalie.
I am very happy to see that Virtuan Business Academy decided to offer classes as well as the State School (Education Virtua) being able to offer courses as well. Overall I this first week in Virtua looks well.

Unfair Competition

Author: Gold Runner
Translator: Riemer_1990

Pricewars in Virtua? It seems to be the case if things continue this way. If there aren’t any threats like ‘then I will buy in Cyberia’ then there are shoot outs in the streets killing another competitor.

The same thing happened to myself. I have set up a nice plastic business and it seems I own a monopoly. Once in a while someone else tried to pick up the plastic trade as well, and I received my share of threats. Most of the time I ignored them and continued as before until some angry customers arrived complaining. I had no choice and to go with the flow by lowering my prices.

Sahib took a different approach. He was a woodtrader and sold his products for half time cheaper than the competition. It seemed they disliked it and they cooperated by planning attacks on him.

At the time of writing Sahib is bankrupt in an attempt to try to pay his hospitalbills. He moved back to Kuwait city to his family where he is loaning some money and setting up a succesfull business again, hopefully with less competition. We hope to see him next round again.

Short News

Author: Riemer_1990

  • A 3/4 active BoC. It seems the board is quite active this round, however racecar is not always present in the Board of Consuls club. The rumor is that he is dating women a lot lately and spends all his time in restaurants and at the sea in his new bought yacht. Is he copycatting the Italian president?
  • It seems Bytertje found the shores of the Federation again. Will he –like usual- cause trouble?
  • Andoversr started to great this round with a fully fledged plan for education in the whole Federation. However from sources inside we hear that this plan is canceled due lack of interest of Cyberia and Digitalia. It seems the latter especially is not interested into education at all.
  • Why isn’t Virtua blown away yet? There are no fines for bombing nowadays due a lazy Board last round, but as far the The Miniconomist knows there haven’t been a single bomb yet.
  • Who is running the Board now? Is it the one who’s duty to run everything our own chair(wo)man White Queen? or Andoversr who seems to manage everything nowadays? It seems it is quite a hierarchy problem upthere.
  • And what is m1n1conomy doing in the top20 turnover (see below)? Has he found the magical “let podje manage my account” button?

Virtua Trade Union

Author: Gold Runner

Since today there is a group of people called the Virtua Trade Union. This is a club with traders from Virtua. They are talking about politics, trade, mainroad pollution and other trade-related subjects.

By this project are many traders as possible involved. Currently the Union are talking about what to do the next round, what do we need to do next round more and where is everyone starting.

The traders are helping eachother and will give the economy a boost. Also we will help the small traders with there bussines.
So everyone is helping eachother to make a stronger and better Virtua. Hopely this results at more top 20 positions
in the next edition i will write more about this.

Did Virtua become Cyberia II?

Author: The Redaction

It is almost a forgotten part of our history, but a Cyberian politician once called Virtua “Cyberia II”. A big diplomatic crisis between the two nations was the result of it. It gave sign to the strong feeling of independence Virtua had and still has. But there are more and more similarities between the two parts of the Federation today.

The most visible of course is the standstill our political system has reached. Barely no law proposals, barely any new ideas, barely any activity at all I have to say. A week has passed since the last volcano eruption, and there is still no state school while there are no private schools at all, no court, nothing. And the worst part of it all seems to be that no one cares. The consuls aren’t criticized by the Virtuan people anymore for their lack of activity. It seems like nobody misses the dying body of the Board of Consuls.

Now where is the parallel with Cyberia? Quite some time ago the Cyberian politics were almost in the same circumstances with their parliamentary system. The political parties failed to activate enough people to become member of parliament, there was a lack of activity and so on. So far we can see a similar development between the older nation of Cyberia and Virtua. Not enough interested citizens for the politics and inactive politicians.

Then, at the initiative of a certain Thira Fellod a new system was introduced, the so called “Volksraad” (People’s Council). This to end the suffering of the dying parliamentary system. It’s main principle was that the President would be elected and selected the Ministers, while everyone who wanted to get involved in politics only had to put their name into a box placed at the entrance of the room where the People’s Council would discuss matters.
To make a long story short, this system was abolished after a couple of rounds after a successful coup d’état by the very same Thira Fellod who invented the system. The Digitalians had to shoot her to restore democracy to Cyberia and later the parliamentary system again.

What can Virtua possibly learn out of this history? First, we don’t want to keep going along the track we are currently following. Second, a new political system generates activity, especially if it becomes more open then the current system is. Third, prevent holes in the law book that allows unforeseen things to happen, like the dictatorship of Thira.

Media convention

Author: Plasticboer

Every couple of rounds there are coming new newspapers that want to beat The Miniconomist. But why to they try this? There‘s an easy answer to that question: they want to get a reputation. But many failed. I am one of them. Now I would really like to now, how this is possible. I started the Media convention this round. Goal? Improving of the media and the social side of this game.
Which means improving the newspaper market, trying to make an active radio station, creating a television station that makes news shows and so you can go on endlessly. But why are those things here already? It is a process that needs time, but to put progress to that process people want to get paid and they won’t get paid that much. Is the policy of the Federals changed that much? Because in the early days there were many newspapers, a couple of radio station andsometimes a television station. Can we improve this? I think so yes, if we work together.

Besides this, everyone knows them. Contests like the El Peso International Shooting Contests(EPISC) don’t have many subscribers.

And besides this, the mayors don’t organize many contests either. Unfortunately, but it could be the truth, because they aren’t worked out that great. So the media convention is started because of:
- Getting new Newspapers, Radio station and Television station
- Improving Social Contests
- Thinking of new Social Contests Do you think, you can help?
Subscribe now in the club “Media Convention Openbaar”(Openbaar had to be Public). There are still 5 spots open!

Interview with King Naamloze

Author: Gold Runner

Gold Runner:
How would you describe the shootings of some Virtuans?

Naamloze:
justified, but no accusations against the Virtuan people.

Gold Runner:
Do you know who are behind the attack(s) of today (attack on Figaro Seraglio?)

Naamloze:
You have to realize that Figaro whateverhisbacknamewas shot at me, after which he became victim himself. I’ve shot him, but there have been many other who shot him as well and told me.

Gold Runner:
If other people come to Digitalia and commit such crimes, would they be punished too?

Naamloze:
I can assure you when more of these crimes are committed by a certain group of persons in Digitalia, not only they will be punished but others not involved will be punished as well.

Gold Runner:
Is it a fact that more attacks have been committed on Digitalians (things as shooting, bombing?)

Naamloze:
As far as I’ve been told there have been no attacks with an impact.

Gold Runner:
Can you rely on support of your citizens with such actions?

Naamloze:
What actions?

Gold Runner:
Attacking persons who are regarded as “famous Digitalians”

Naamloze:
I think that is obvious

Gold Runner:
One last question: do you have good tips for persons who are still determined to attack a Digitalian?

Naamloze:
Practice on persons outside of Digitalia first.

Gold Runner:
Thank you for answering my questions.

Naamloze:
I hope I’ve been able to shed some light on Digitalia. Bye
