Politics are an essential part of any developed country. Citizens of a country expect a good economy, security and patriotism from their governments and all of these conditions should ensure a lifestyle that some will be happy to be in while others will still want to change it. While many citizens in the Federation try to achieve power and recognition by wealth, some move behind the scenes in politics and achieve similar things. There are many models from which people can do the politics “game”. Cyberië for example has a parliament and has fierce political parties that govern their state. Digitalië has a monarchy in which the King is supreme and has senators and mayors which help him rule while having traders and criminals support him or want him taken down. Virtua has a complex presidential system in which the elected President chooses his national advisors that help him run the country but at the same time, individually, may get to be very powerful due to what they can control. In the politics stage many Federation citizens do agree in one thing and that is that they are clueless on how do Ibishan politics work.
Ibisha is one of the best kept secrets in the Federation. Its citizens, the social aspect and the economic opportunities have been growing slowly. The young nation, only 18 trade periods since it was liberated and populated by the Spanish community, has slowly opened up to outsiders. It has had economic troubles which have been no surprise to anyone, but politically Ibisha Island has been a nice kept secret. Ibisha has had only 3 Presidents during its modern history which are The Socialist, Craftsman and marcelbuter. The President rules with an iron fist because of the control he has in the country. He controls the country’s infrastructure, the treasury and approves and makes laws. He is the only judge for complaints or cases in the Ibishan court and appoints the secretive Ibishan Leadership which gives counsel and help with punishing wrongdoers. From these things one could infer that the President is a very powerful position. In fact many deem the Ibishan leader as a dictator from what can be seen in the Ibishan law book.
This newspaper has started to ask, important figures in the Federation along with many Ibishan citizens, several things to give more insight to what happens in Ibishan politics. A prominent criminal and ex-King in Digitalia, Technix, when asked what does he think of the Ibishan political system says: “I dont even know how it works…haha, but it appears to be functioning quite well though”. An experienced Parliament member from Cyberië, Joep Eerlijk, also comments on this by saying, “I only see the President as Ibishan politics, which I don’t see very much. I think politics in Ibisha could be more developed”. So far no one from the outside can explain clearly what happens in the political stage, some may argue that this is a good achievement for the country. “The current system meets the needs of the country and enables good micro management, which is needed since the country is only one city. However, the risk of an inactive President/Mayor is high and it all comes down to one player, which makes Ibisha vulnerable to inactivity, which will cause great damage to the economy”, was Federal Coordinators comment when approached on what does he think. Federal Coordinator’s comments also bring to question the damage a single person can do by being in control of all of these areas. The wrong person in charge could very well destroy the country or even worse; he could finance terrorism throughout the Federation without impunity from his citizens.
Despite all these negative arguments, the current president, The Socialist, has achieved an 83% of approval from the polled citizens of Ibisha. That is a high number for someone who has been deemed a ruthless dictator by some. We took the liberty to ask some citizens if they believe The Socialist, as ‘liberator’ of modern Ibisha, still is the most powerful person. CIT, one of the wealthiest Ibishans this round says: “I don’t know, since I am not very familiar with the power circulation in Ibisha, but I do think that if he wants power, he can get it, so yes. I can’t think of anyone who would have more power than The Socialist”. It is unclear to some if the President uses excessive power to make the country work, for example, The Great when approached on this said: “I haven’t seen him exercise his power so don’t know, personally I don’t see anything different between here and Virtua”. When we approached two prominent traders this round in the Federation, who will remain nameless, to comment on how they see the possible dictatorship aspects of Ibisha he comments, “If anything positive from a dictatorship I can say that it is a great way to rule over a country with few inhabitants, especially the way Ibisha is doing it (with “some help” from the Ibishan Leadership). Negative aspects are that the whole country has been shaped to dictator’s idea of the perfect country, and it’s easy for him to get re-elected. When another dictator with completely different thoughts might be elected, he would have to rewrite the whole law book. So there is just one political movement that rules”. They gave an interesting point of view to the politics scene. The second nameless trader expressed that Ibisha may have a great model, he says: “Most certainly the dictatorship model is preferred and depends on how you look at it, I don’t think The Socialist has never been the most powerful person in Ibisha”. “The politics system is great but Cyberia and Digitalia are far ahead, Ibisha is catchinp up though”. This second opinion comes from a skilled trader in the economy mechanics and a prominent ex-COV member that has worked in many political systems in the past.
This trade period the Ibishan Government has started the election process and it is no surprise that The Socialist is running again. There is however a challenger in the Presidential race, R3knowAL. R3knowAL has been an interesting figure in Ibisha since his arrival. He arrived being some sort of mercenary but as time passed he grew to be a presence in the trading area and more importantly in the Ibishan Police Force. From time to time he leaves the country but always seems to see his way home and on this period he seeks Presidency. Will he win the race? The question is a hard one because both presidential candidates have not had a strong physical presence with the citizens so the voting in the end may be only by the candidate’s political or social record from past periods. There is one important rumor throughout the Island and that is the word democracy. It has been rumored that the Ibishan political system will be reformed soon because citizens want more participation and decision making. Only time will tell if this is just a pipe dream from some citizens or an empty promise from the Palacio Presidencial to bring up the moral of people.
