(Parish) With the last few days of this round ahead of us, we can slowly start making an assessment of how things were this round for the good people of the United Blingdom. We’ve got a fresh start in a new country, but were we able to do something worth mentioning with all this? Some interesting questions arise.
First off: a fresh start should mean fresh opportunities and new goals. We got neither of those. The United Blingdom is basically Virtua without the Virtuan Lawbook and with a different map. The same people control trade and politics, the same inactivity reigns in both aspects of Virtuan life. Whereas this new start should mean a lot of hard work to ensure the future of our new nation it meant hardly anything. Politics were dead, as if no new lawbook was needed. Some small first steps were made, but nothing will be used in the next round. Whoever is voted into office next round will have to start again from scratch, as if this round never happened.
The only real decision that was made was which flag this new nation would bear. A huge responsibility that was swiftly outsourced to the people of Virtu… I mean United Blingdom by means of a contest. A contest with a clear winner that won’t get the prize he was promised. As the new lawbook isn’t finished, a mention of the maker of the flag in that lawbook won’t be possible. The only real political act was to ensure the reigning elite was properly enlisted for the next election. The status quo must be maintained.
All of this reflected in trade which was basically dead. Since the budgets fell flat and the current government is hardly to be called a government, Federal tinkering with the budgets hardly faced any resistance or feedback from Virtu… I mean the United Blingdoms leaders. There was some bickering and some moaning but no real diplomatic efforts were made to ensure the budget remain positive. The result is a round of terrible trade and a negative balance by the end of the round. This will have another fun side effect for all citizens of Virtu… I mean United Blingdom: our networth will be lower than expected.
One thing is positive: the Federals have found a way to ensure that inactive behaviour is no longer a road to political success. But the final judgement will be in hands of those voting: will they keep the current political elite in power, ensuring yet another round of inactivity and lack of political change, or will they chose for something entirely new?
Only time will tell.
