Political struggles

The Parliament, a party? Especially not at the start. We can impossible say the Parliamentary system is still in it’s early stadium and thus could show some problems due to that fact. Although the People’s Council lasted for almost ten rounds, the old Parliamentary functions seem to be too dusty to properly function.

Freshly elected president The Socialist discovered quite soon that the automated voting system didn’t work. He told this to the highest government in the Federation, but the reparation took a while. The president thus decided Tuesday to make a by-law which enabled to host voting in the Parliaments building itself. This allowed to finally end the long waiting periods there were for the guidelines and the budget plan.
It is clear the cabinet can’t be blamed in this matter. They simply cannot be held responsible for technical defects in the voting system.

But these delays are not only caused by technical problems. At the unofficial Parliament forum, the place where political Cyberia gathers when the volcano erupts, members of parliament and political sympathisers became nervous when the guidelines of the ministries and policy statement of the president didn’t show up. After some nagging both the Minister of Justice (MoJ) Tresias Aegirsson and Minister of Finance (MoF) the mega handelaar appeared in the political arena and proposed their directives. Especially the MoJ was attacked when it appeared he wanted to reincarnate the Practice Courtroom. Opponents started to wave with motions immediately.

But still. Compared to the achievements of the president and the Minister of Education (MoE) Erkan E. it were heroic deeds. Both were conspicuously absent. Al right, the president is not really obliged to present his policy there already, but he ignored the old habit to give a policy speech. Several persons remained unstatisfied because of this, especially when it appeared that some guidelines of the ministries were the complete opposite to the promised which Lijst Solidariteit (List Solidarity, LS) made prior to the elections.

Can it be worse? Of course, we are living in Cyberia after all. The MoE didn’t say a word on the Parliament Forum. When he finally appeared after the start of the trading period a motion was already prepared for him. But he drew his own conclusions and resigned because of lack of time. Whether this will be punished or not is not sure yet. The party Lijst Joep Eerlijk (List Joep Eerlijk, LJE) offered a new candidate for the MoE after a request of LS. The mister has started his new job now.

The elections itself were already a big surprise actually. The big favourite Lijst Joep Eerlijk ended last with 29% of the votes. Second favourite Liberaal Democraten (Liberal Democrats, LD), got 30,1% of the votes and was able to win three seats, like LJE. The big winner was underdog Lijst Solidariteit with 40,9% of the votes. That result is good for five seats. Although everybody who is able to count notices clearly that LS does not have enough votes to achieve a majority, they still decided to make a LS-only cabinet. This plan met fierce resistance of the two opposition parties, who formed a majority together.

LS had to deal with political enfant terrible vinny who didn’t feel himself appreciated within the party and decided to enter into opposition too. But LS did not budge and went on. With the elimination of Erkan E. and the entrance of LJE-member the mister the coalition now relies on a small majority. But the question whether LJE will completely loses their opposition attitude remains. No doubt more information and a new turn in the next edition!
