I call the recent events surrounding Rednax coming to power in Digitalië a civil war because of the unsettling of nature. I will explain these events from my external point of view and after having spoken to most of persons involved in this narrative. But in my understanding of what they told me they may not have reflected their own point of view.
Rednax returned to Digitalië after a long and -I think- quite successful career in Cyberië. He became powerful by pure luck, he happened to be the one who fired the fatal shot at king Neuroman while others were shooting frantically much more at the dying king. He didn’t want to become king. At least not yet.
Suddenly the situation changed very rapidly, somebody who just emigrated from Cyberië was in
no-time crowned to king of the bloodthirsty Digitalië. Some allied themselves with the new king and others turned against him. Until this point, nothing is very different of the powers of the kings change. What was strange was that a new group was formed amongst those who rebelled against Rednax. This group not only wanted power but also wanted to change the political system of Digitalië. They wanted this so much that they tried to get allies from other nations.
It was no longer a simple internal struggle for power, it was a civil war. And the rebels were losing it. They sought help amongst the leader of other Nations, trying to drag the other country in their revolution. Every friendly gesture from other nations were greatly exaggerated and boasted as if to boost their own morale and bring fear in the heart of their enemies. We might have secretly hoped that a simple form of democracy could come to Digitalië but they putted words in our mouth that we had not said, they posted banners and tried to get new voices to support them as if a referendum was coming to give power to their voice. As if their wishes of democratically elected senators had already come true.
And while they wasted money in banners instead of guns, King Rednax and his followers simply got rid of them one by one by spewing threats and sometimes even acting on them or anyone in the Federation who would dare to even talk to those rebels. Cyberian President Joep Eerlijk almost died in the intensive care unit at the hospital near his home but finally managed to survive. All this because he spoke against king Rednax.
If felt like being trapped in a room with a rabid blood lusted dog. Persons who were considered friends or at least partners were suddenly becoming potential enemies. Who needed to protect themselves now. Maybe it was just paranoia receiving a couple threats every day. All about wrong things we were doing and what we were supposed to do.
It was unsettling.
All of a sudden, it was finished. When a former Consul decided it was time to join the fray of everyone shooting at everyone else, he left his former home of Virtua to settle in Digitalië. In a couple hours he killed king Rednax and the third king of Digitalië was a fact. The new king of Digitalië was called Amini.
Things started looking a little less grim in Virtua. We didn’t receive a single threat in hours. King Amini seemed open to communication so we might not have war after all.
I can’t see Amini staying King much longer than the couple of days that are left of this trading period.
What I see is the damage all this has done to the international friendship in the last months.
All because of a single bullet that caused the wrong person to become King.
The king is dead. Long live the king.
