Shooting, what’s the point of it in Cyberia? Of course it can help with removing potential competitor, someone who is quite the annoyance can be removed as well, and corrupt politicians can be removed of their positions with force. Shooting in Cyberia is “not done” at the moment though, especially because of the height of the fines. After long periods of Digitalian terrorism the fines in Cyberia were successfully raised again. You don’t see the Digitalians anymore, and a simple answer to the question if they will shoot someone for 5000 I-Shell usually is “no, the fines are too high there”. There are politicians however who don’t agree and say that the fines should be even higher.

Take Kathryn Janeway, a new politician in the Cyberian system (she has been known longer in the Federation under a different name). She asks that the fines go to 1750 I-Shell plus another 15% of the shooter’s equity. The absurd things is that it puts people into awkward situations. Sometimes someone in Cyberia just needs to be shot, a good example being ex-mayor Car-Dealertje of Kronenburg from the last trading period. With the current system the entire shooting system is unusable in Cyberia, and the plan from Minister of Education The Minic about bodyguards could even be thrown in the trash. No, while shooting is generally not wished in Cyberia, it is needed at time and with the coming bodyguard system, a different development would be logical.

So I call out that fines need to be lowered in the coming round, the reason being the above story. Prominent people will hire bodyguards if they go on visits in different cities. They could also be protected at night by these bodyguards. Besides, for the less wealthy and the less prominent there are also possibilities for protection, CBI agents who defend players from hitmen. The fact is that people have become lazy and don’t want to protect themselves. People are not thinking about possible attacks and spend time outside of their houses at night. “What do people want to do? Shoot me? No one would do that! Think of the fines!” is a normal comment in Cyberia, but faulty in its logic.

In conclusion it could be said that Cyberians are ready for lowering of fines and forcing citizens to defend themselves, think about things themselves, and put them responsible of having insight in how to survive. Politicians can’t keep holding their citizens’ hands, it is time for a change.
